Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna w Krakowie (The Regional Public Library in Krakow) is a council culture institution, hiring 180 people, financed by Malopolska Voivodeship.
Its assignments include:
§ book acquisition, book description, popularizing and lending reading materials, mediation in lendings between libraries,
§ substantial supervision over a network of 756 local public libraries in Malopolska: designing growth strategies of the local public libraries in Malopolska Voivodeship network,
§ organization of specialist conferences, including areas of literature, work with children methodology and handicapped readers,
§ organization of seasonal training for local libraries directors and instructors,
§ cooperation with local authorities in terms of proper libraries working,
§ competitions for children
§ trainings for seniors (how to use a computer, Picasa, how to make a website)
§ workshops on how to plan a professional career.
Library offers not only books or newspapers but also facilities for the reading of documents published in electronic forms (data-bases and optical disk publications, audio materials in classical music, opera, light entertainment and music for children, audiobooks, computer bibliographical and multimedia databases (its own and acquired sets, including CD versions), videocassettes for adults and young people, music manuscripts, 16 mm short-length and full-length films, special for the blind persons we have Braille publications and “spoken books”.

The library makes its collection accessible for readers 7 days a week from 8 am to 7 pm. Over 600 thousand people visit our Library yearly.
